“Now-on-tap” lets you use the google search engine from any app. To use it, you just have to press and hold the home button to let Google analyze anything you’re using on the screen and then it shows relevant information based on the things it analyzed. For example, if you have any place on the screen and then use Google “now-on-tap”, Google will show you the address and other relevant information for that place....

A recent 9to5Google report cites “people familiar with the matter” claiming that Google will offer at least seven different strap options with the Pixel Watch. This information aligns with the Pixel Watch trademark filing spotted last year. In the filing, Google directly mentioned that straps would be made of leather, metal, plastic, silicone, and rubber. However, it is possible all the materials won’t be used to make individual straps. They could be combined as well....

On Tuesday, Google Cloud shared how it’s helping its customers take on the problem with a package of tools that help secure the software development process. The company unveiled the Software Delivery Shield during the Google Cloud Next conference. Software Delivery Shield is a fully managed software toolkit designed for developers, DevOps teams and security teams. It includes services that cover five different parts of the software development process: application development, software “supply,” continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD), production environments, and policies....

Google has without any change log or notification changed the app drawer of its Google Now Launcher from the horizontal paginated list that we have all grown accustomed to a vertically scrolling one, as found in the Android 6.0 Developer Preview. Google pushed this update through its Google app, which essentially contains all the code for the Now Launcher, and not through the Google Now Launcher app. The vertical scrolling app drawer and quick search functionality are better in terms of usability, but might not be liked by everyone....

With the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, Google has once again set a new bar for other smartphone cameras to follow. Even better, the company has improved the stock camera app with a new UI and added new features to it, including the ability to natively shoot and save RAW photos. Earlier this week, a report revealed the codename of Google’s Pixel 2 handsets: ”Muskie” and ”Walleye.” Now, Droid-Life reports that Google is possibly working on a third device codenamed “taimen.” The codename of the device is of a fish or aquatic animal, just like all other Google products released in the last few years. This third device will feature a screen bigger than what is found on the other two Pixel 2 handsets....

Google’s Pixel 2 XL still is a competent option in the price segment especially considering the company has promised three years of software and maintenance updates. Although the phone does suffer from a handful of critical shortcomings such as performance slowdowns and poor display quality. However, since the Android Pie update, we’ve seen a couple of users (including some people at TechPP) reporting major improvements for the former. As for the specifications, the Google Pixel 2 XL comes with a 6-inch Quad HD OLED screen, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64/128GB internal storage which is not expandable, Adreno 540 GPU, and a sufficient 3520 mAh non-removable battery....
