Lytro has been around for a bit of time now, as one of the most ground-breaking companies in the camera field, but it looks like some big changes are on the way. Based on a report from TechCrunch, Lytro is on the way to being purchased, and it sounds like Google is the frontrunner in the process. Sources speaking to the publication state that Lytro could be bought for around $40 million, in what is referred to as an “asset sale”. Meanwhile, another source says that Lytro could be sold for $25 million, and that it has already been shopped around to the likes of Facebook, and even Apple. But Google might be the company ready to pull the trigger on the acquisition. There is no denying that augmented reality, virtual reality, and camera technology in general is a major focus for Google moving forward. Lytro could be a big win for Google, especially at a low price of only $40 million (or even cheaper). Still, we will probably have to wait and see what Google does with an acquisition like this — if it goes through at all.
