Google finally gave the news every developer has been waiting for by announcing availability of the long-awaited Chromecast SDK, also known as the Google Cast Software Development Kit. Today new and old app developers get the opportunity to build their platform with the Chromecast feature baked in.Google broke the news today on its Chrome blog. The search giant has already updated Chromecast dongles out in the world with a new version to get them ready for the new SDK. In addition the Android and iOS app should both see updates as well. The streaming dongle launched with a small number of apps, including Netflix, Pandora, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, YouTube and the Chrome web browser. Recently Google released Chromecast support for 10 new apps such as Plex, RealPlayer Cloud and Vevo. After today that number should grow exponentially as Google continues to make its play into everyone’s television. As a Chromecast user, I’m excited to see the potential of new apps coming aboard. I believe the small number of apps supporting the Chromecast platform has been its only downfall. That said, it’s definitely going to be an interesting next few weeks. So which apps would you like to see support the Chromecast streaming feature?
