As Google gears up to launch Android L at some point this year, with most bets set for October, many of its individual Android pieces are starting to see updates to Material Design, the new design aesthetic Google is going with across its properties. Now, add one more to the list. As revealed on the official Android blog on Thursday, October 2, Google is officially rolling out a Material Design update for Google Play Newsstand. It’s been just under a year since the search giant unleashed the reading app, which makes it easy to find things like online newspapers, magazines and blogs all in one central location. With the Material Design upgrade, there are now more contextual titles, bigger images and even faster search.
Everything, as usual, looks a bit more refined with Material Design, even if it is a bit flatter across the board. With the bigger images, the new sections look quite appealing. Swiping from the left of right will find you new categories, and swiping up and down will let you dig into them to learn more when you want. The update is now available for anyone who wants to download the app for the first time. For those who already have it installed, Google is pushing it out now, and it should be finalized inside of a week.
