Samsung and Google have entered into a new partnership to bring ARCore — Google’s platform for building Augmented Reality apps — to its flagship lineup of Galaxy devices. This includes the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and the Galaxy Note 8.
Thanks to this partnership, developers will be able to use the ARCore SDK to create AR apps that will work on Samsung’s flagship devices thereby providing millions of users with access to them. When Google first announced ARCore, it had mentioned that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ also support the platform. What this partnership essentially signifies is that all future Samsung devices will also support the platform which should provide developers with an incentive to build ARCore apps. The ARCore platform is still in its nascent stages and we have only seen a few demo apps from Google and other third-party developers. It is the successor to Project Tango, Google’s first AR platform which did not really meet with any kind of success. By supporting ARCore, Samsung devices will have to adhere to a certain set of rules to ensure that all ARCore based apps work properly on them.
